Orangewomen Defeat Villanova for First BIG EAST Volleyball Win

Syracuse (12-6 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) swept the match in three games, 15-2, 15-13, 15-5.
Fiume added four digs and one service ace in the match. Senior outside hitter Julie Nicholson (Horseheads, NY) led all players with four blocks and contributed seven kills to the effort. Senior outside hitter Julianna Stokes (Naperville, OH) posted a match-high 10 digs and tied with junior setter Noreen Carroll (LaGrange, IL) for the team lead with two aces. Carroll controlled the offense with 34 assists and blocked two Villanova attacks.
Leah Mathews posted seven kills, while Tina Zitterich added six for the Wildcats (6-11, 0-2).
The Orangewomen face Albany in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. on October 6.
