
Schmelzle Leads Women's Soccer To OT Victory

Freshman Christine LeMieux (Topsham, ME) opened the scoring as teammate Courtney Spencer (Syracuse, NY) handed her the rebound off a goal deflection just under 18 minutes into the second half of play. Cornells Emily Knight answered with a Big Red goal just seven minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
Just under three minutes into overtime play, Schmelzle tallied an unassisted goal giving Syracuse the 2-1 victory. Syracuse goalkeeper Katie Karlander (Carmel, IN) had 12 saves while Cornells Meghan Cauzillo had nine for her team.
The Orangewomen will return to action on Sunday, October 15 when they host the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at the Soccer Stadium at Lampe Athletics Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
