
Fiume Breaks Syracuse All-Time Kills Record

Fiume surpassed 1997 graduate Jen Murphy's mark of 1,605. She finished the day with 27 kills, nine digs, five blocks and two service aces. The teams fought a see-saw battle, with Syracuse (21-9, 4-4) winning game one, 15-8. The Red Storm claimed game two, 15-13, and game three 15-11.
The Orange rallied to capture game four, but St. Johns sealed the match with a 15-11 game-five win.
Syracuse outblocked St. Johns 17.0 to 9.5, including a season high 34 assisted blocks. Sophomore Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) led all defenders with 10 blocks, while senior outside hitter Julie Nicholson (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and junior setter Noreen Carroll (LaGrange, IL/Lyons) made seven blocks each. Carroll added a team-high 62 assists. Junior outside hitter Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) killed 15 and added four digs. Freshman defensive specialist Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN) lead five players with double digits in digs, recording 17. Senior outside hitter Julianna Stokes (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) had three aces.
Syracuse hosts Providence College on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Womens Building.
