
Syracuse Defeats Providence to Earn Fifth BIG EAST Win

Syracuse used efficient hitting to win the match, successfully killing 39.2 percent of its attacks. The defense allowed Providence to kill only 1.9 percent of its attempts. The Orangewomen (22-9 overall, 5-4 BIG EAST) swept the match with consecutive-game wins of 15-6, 15-3, 15-6.
Fiume led the squad with 11 kills. She tied for the team-high in digs with senior outside hitter Drisana Carey (San Diego, CA) with five. Fiume and sophomore middle blocker Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA) made four blocks each. Senior outside hitter Julianna Stokes (Naperville, IL) served three of the team's six digs. The Orange outserved Providence 6-3 in the match. Syracuse posted eight total blocks to the Friars' three, including 14 block assists.
Junior setter Noreen Carroll (LaGrange, IL) made 22 assists on the evening. She needs 115 to break the all-time school record of 3,830 held by 1998 graduate Carrie Urton.
Syracuse hosts Boston College Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Women's Building.
