
GUTTY PERFORMANCE FOR ORANGEWOMEN IN 76-63 LOSS TO NO. 1 CONNECTICUT

Leigh Aziz (Auburn, NY) led the Orange's effort posting her second double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards. Jaime James (Plymouth, MA), Leaf Newman (Perris, CA), and Paula Moore (Bridgeport, CT) led Syracuse in scoring, putting in 11 points each. Moore became the 10th leading scorer in Syracuse history. She now has1,077 points in her collegiate career.
Syracuse shot 25 percent in the first half and headed to the locker room down 35-25. The 35 points scored by the Huskies is their lowest point total for a half this season.
The Syracuse defense held two of Connecticut top scorers to their lowest totals of the season. Svetlana Abrosimova came into the game averaging 14.6 points per game and preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Shea Ralph entered the game averaging 11.5 points per game. Both players were limited to three points each. Connecticut's lowest point total this season is 71 points against then second-ranked Tennessee.
Connecticut opened up a 28-point lead, 61-33, with 10:50 left to play. Syracuse battled back, outscoring the Huskies 30-15 during the final 10-and-a-half minutes.
The Orangewomen have eight days off before playing an 8 p.m. game at Georgetown on Jan. 17.
