Orangewomen Lose in First Round of ECAC Championship

Freshman Kristine Holte (Oslo, Norway/Fagerborg vgs.) won both of her matches against Dartmouth, the seventh seed in the tournament. Holte defeated Catherine Crandall, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles for the Orangewomen?s lone singles win. In doubles action, she teamed with Jessica Schlosser (Nedrow, NY/CBA) to beat Arden Frediking and Sarah McNally, 7-6 (9-7) at No. 3 doubles.
Dartmouth won the other two doubles matches. At No. 1,, Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Rusiia/School #528) and Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabasas) lost to Sarita Yardi and Carly Bashlenben, 8-1. Crandall and Lisa Borowsky beat SU?s No. 2 doubles team of Daniela Kaluskova (Prague/Czech Republic/Gym Budejovicka) and Zani Suttle (Roswell, GA)/Centennial), 8-5.
The Big Green also won five singles matches, including two that went to three sets. In the closest singles match of the day, SU senior Katie Thompson (Wesley Chapel, FL) lost to Frediking, 6-2, 2-6, 6-5 (9-7) at No. 4 singles. Shervin also lost her No. 3 singles match in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0, to Jayme Ahmed, while Suttle lost in straight sets, both in a tiebreaker, 6-5 (7-4), 6-5 (7-4) to McNally at No. 6.
