
Syracuse Takes To The Road For Three Weekend Matches

The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team (7-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) travels to Connecticut and Massachusetts this weekend to face two BIG EAST rivals and one non-conference opponent. On Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., SU meets BIG EAST rival Connecticut after defeating the Huskies in five games last year. The Orangewomen meet Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Oct 6 and then continue BIG EAST play on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. against Boston College.
Freshman Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) continues to lead the Syracuse offense with 3.46 kills per game. She recorded 13 kills in Wednesday’s 3-1 victory against Binghamton. Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) tallied a season and team-high 14 kills in the Binghamton match, her fifth match back from a knee injury. Junior Abby Van Mater’s (West Chester, PA/Unionville) 11 kills versus Binghamton was her third straight match in double figures. Freshman Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) recorded double figures in kills for the fourth time this year with 11 on Wednesday night. She also set a career high with a .318 hitting percentage.
Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) had her fourth double-double of the season with 51 assists and a team-high 12 digs against Binghamton. Carroll is ninth among BIG EAST Conference leaders with 10.02 assists per game. Sophomore Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) moved into the team lead in digs with 98 after contributing nine digs against Binghamton.
The Orangewomen lead all three series against Connecticut, Central Connecticut State and Boston College. SU is 23-9 against the Huskies, who are 10-3 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST. Syracuse leads the CCSU series, 4-1, and the Boston College series, 23-4. BC is 10-4 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.
