
Griffin, Reafsnyder Selected in NBDL Draft

The NBDL Draft was conducted after one week of tryouts. More than 150 players from around the world competed in Suwanee, Ga., outside of Atlanta, for 88 roster spots on the league’s eight teams.
Now that the draft has completed, each team has 16 players – 12 draft selections and four allocation players. Coaches must cut rosters down to 11 for individual team training camps slated to begin November 6.
On November 3, the league will conduct a supplemental draft which will include “last cuts” from NBA training camps, according to a release from the NBDL. Final roster cuts must be submitted to the league office on November 14.
Griffin reports to a club coached by former Utah Jazz standout Jeff Malone. Columbus’ roster includes three players Griffin competed against while at SU – Louisville’s Nate Johnson, Saul Smith from Kentucky and Coppin State’s Fred Warrick. Smith and Deaundre Tanner from Oregon State are the other point guards on the team.
Griffin graduated in 2001 after leading the Orangemen in minutes played (1,247), assists (220) and steals (66) last season. He started all 34 games.
Reafsnyder joins an Asheville squad coached by former DePaul mentor Joey Meyer. Reafsnyder is listed as one of two centers on the roster. The other is Lehigh product Sah-u-rah Brown. Two names familiar to BIG EAST Conference followers are teammates of Reafsnyder. Miami’s Johnny Hemsley and Lee Scruggs from Georgetown competed against the Orangemen.
Reafsnyder started 23 games for SU during the 1994-95 campaign. The following season, his senior campaign, he averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
