Syracuse trailed by five at the half and were down seven after the intermission before charging back into the contest. A layup and free throw by Allen Griffin, followed by two Damone Brown free throws, knotted the game at 46-46.
After Miami responded with a 9-2 run the Orangemen attacked again. A dunk and two free throws by Kueth Duany, combined with a basket from DeShaun Williams, had SU within two points with 4:02 remaining.
Miami scored 12 of the last 15 points to secure the win, its second straight in the Carrier Dome. Brown led the team with 18 points 12 rebounds, his 13th double-double of the season. Jeremy McNeil matched a career-high five blocks.
Although Syracuse posted its best free-throw appearance of the season, shooting 88.9 percent from the line, the Orangemen shot just 30 percent from the field. It was SUs poorest marksmanship since a 1997 game at Notre Dame. Syracuse converted only 28.6 percent of its shots in the second half and was 1-for-13 from behind the three-point line.
The Orangemen were also slowed by 14 turnovers.
