The Orangewomen (3-2) face Dartmouth at 3 p.m. Friday. SU clashes with BIG EAST foe Rutgers at noon on Saturday. Last season, Syracuse shutout Rutgers, 9-0, but lost 5-4 to Dartmouth.
Syracuse is coming off a 7-0 win against Georgetown last weekend. SU won every match played in the meeting, the first time the squad has posted a sweep this season. The Dartmouth match commences a slate of six consecutive away matches. Syracuse's next home match is March 23 against Alabama-Birmingham.
The Georgetown match was a milestone for senior Michelle Neveklovska (West Vancouver, British Columbia). She moved into sixth place in SU history with 135 career wins. Her two wins Sunday against Georgetown pushed her ahead of former teammate Shareen Lai (1996-2000) and Amy Schiff (1983-87) on the SU all-time wins list. Lai and Schiff are tied for seventh with 134. Neveklovska is now tied with Sara Dickson (1991-95). Kathy Bradford (1985-90) is in fifth place with 136 career victories.
Six Orangewomen have amassed 20 victories this season, including two who hit the mark this weekend. Junior Katie Thompson (Wesley Chapel, FL) earned her 20th win of the season in her singles match against Georgetown. She is 13-8 in singles and 7-7 at doubles for a 20-15 combined record. Freshman Zani Suttle (Roswell, GA) notched her 20th and 21st wins of the season against the Hoyas. Suttle has 12 singles and nine doubles wins this year. Sophomore Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, CA) has a 22-11 record this season. Junior Zuzanna Borucka (Gdansk, Poland) and sophomore Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia) are tied for third with 27 wins each. Kabanova leads the team with 15 singles victories, while Borucka is tied with senior Michelle Neveklovksa (West Vancouver, British Columbia) with 15 doubles victories. Neveklovskas 28 wins lead SU.
