The Orangemen throwers will be represented by two individuals. Sophomores Tim Adrian (Moorpark, CA) and Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ontario) have each qualified in the shot put. Bedard is coming off a seventh-place finish in the event at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship.
Also representing Syracuse in the field events will be sophomore pole vaulter Joel Carusone (Slingerland, NY) and sophomore long jumper Richard Polidore (Chino, CA). Carusone was an All-BIG EAST performer at the conference meet after finishing second in the pole vault. Polidore also qualified in the 200-meter dash. He is the Orangemen's only multi-event qualifier.
On the women's side, junior Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) and senior Alicia Crowd (Greenwich, NY) each reached the ECAC standard in two individual events and were a part of the women's 4x400-meter relay team that qualified.
Culley will compete in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. She set school records in the 60-meters on back-to-back days at the BIG EAST championship, recording a fourth-place finish (7.59). She also finished fifth in the conference in the 200-meter dash.
Crowd qualified for the ECAC meet in the 400-meter and 500-meter dash. She missed the BIG EAST meet because of injury. Junior Stacyann Dwyer (Huntington Station, NY) will join Crowd in the 400-meter dash field.
Senior Opal Jones (Capitol Heights, MD) will compete in the 60-meter hurdles. Jones was an All-BIG EAST performer at the conference meet, and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 8.41 during the preliminary round.
Junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, VA) rounds out the Orangewomen's automatic qualifiers. Watkins will participate in the triple jump after finishing eighth in that event at the BIG EAST Championship.
This is the last chance for Syracuse student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championship to be held at the University of Arkansas on March 9-10.
