
No. 2 Georgetown Downs Tenth-Ranked Syracuse in Women's Lacrosse Actions

Georgetown jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Wick Stanwicks first of two goals just 1:15 into the contest. Syracuse answered but fell behind 2-1 when Sheehan Stanwick found the back of the net with 21:00 remaining in the first half. Following another goal by the Orangewomen, and a 2-2 tie, the Hoyas took the lead for good by posting five unanswered goals and taking a 7-2 lead with 6:35 left in the opening half. Erin Elbe recorded two of the five goals, while Sarah Oglesby, Sheehan Stanwick and Elizabeth Ryan all added another. Georgetown gave up two more scores but entered halftime leading, 7-4.
Syracuses Lauren Brady (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) scored a goal just 1:03 into the second half to get the Orangewomen within 7-5, but GU then went on another offensive spurt scoring five goals during the next 10 minutes, increasing its lead to 12-5. Elbe got goals three and four in the explosion, while Anouk Peters, Wick Stanwick and Melissa Ellers added scores. Syracuse put one more on the board when Soults tallied her third goal of the game at the 15:43 mark.
Junior goalie Chandler Vicchio posted 11 saves for the Hoyas, while Carla Gigon (Hingham, MA/Hingham) and Tegan Leonard (Charleston, MA/B. Browne & Nichols) combined for six saves for Syracuse. GU outshot Syracuse, 24-23. The Orangewomen owned a 12-9 advantage on draws.
The Hoyas improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Orangewomen moved to 0-3. Syracuses next game is the first of a doubleheader with the mens program on Saturday, March 24 when the Orangewomen host Massachusetts at noon in the Carrier Dome.
