The Orangemen are led by reigning ECAC Division I Field Athlete of the Week Tim Adrian (Moorpark, CA). The sophomore has won both discus competitions he has participated in this outdoor season. He also owns the Orangemen's best shot put of the outdoor campaign. He is qualified for both the BIG EAST and IC4A outdoor championships in both events.
Classmate and fellow thrower Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ontario) also reached both standards in the shot put last week at Texas Southern.
Sophomore Joel Carusone (Slingerland, NY) will also be looking to become a two-time winner this season. Carusone captured his first pole vault competition last weekend at the Texas Southern Relays.
On the women's side, junior Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) and senior Opal Jones (Capitol Heights, MD) have been strong in the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles, respectively.
Culley broke her own school record in the Orangewomen's first outdoor meet of the season, finishing fourth at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Miami with a time of 11.76. Last weekend at Texas Southern, Culley clocked an 11.84 to win the event. She has reached the ECAC and BIG EAST qualifying standards in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Jones is also qualified for both championship meets in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior ran a season-best 13.76 to win the event at the Hurricane Invitational and finished third at Texas Southern with a 13.77. She is within striking distance of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 13.60. During the indoor season, Jones was Syracuse's only performer to reach an NCAA standard, hitting the provisional mark in the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior Stacyann Dwyer (Huntington Station, NY) has also been successful in the hurdles during the outdoor campaign, qualifying for the ECAC and BIG EAST meets in the 400-meter variety. This weekend will be her first 400-meter hurdle race since finishing third at the Hurricane Invitational with a time of 1:02.26.
The meet begins with field events on Friday morning and will conclude on Saturday evening with the 4x400-meter relay.
