
Orangewomen Softball Season Ends with Trip to Seton Hall and St. John's

The Orangewomen have not played since Tuesday's doubleheader split with Canisius. Syracuse is 18-25 overall and 5-11 in league play. The Orangewomen scored its first-ever conference doubleheader sweep on Sunday, April 29, defeating Rutgers, 1-0 and 4-0.
Seton Hall is in fourth place in the BIG EAST with a 10-6 league record. The Pirates are 24-11 overall after taking both ends of a doubleheader versus Princeton on Thursday. The RedStorm is 28-29 overall and 6-10 in conference play.
The Orangewomen are 1-2 all-time versus Seton Hall. Syracuse won the first-ever meeting, 13-3, in Clearwater, FL on March 18 of last season, but lost both games at Seton Hall, 3-2 and 6-0 on April 15, 2000. Sunday's games will be the first softball meeting between Syracuse and St. John's.
The Orangewomen are led by sophomore centerfielder Christina Holowich (Castro Valley, CA). Holowich is hitting .313 for the season, including a .357 average during BIG EAST play. Her 46 hits, three triples and 56 total bases are all Syracuse single-season records. She is the only SU player to start all 43 games in the same position.
Freshman catcher Jaime Grillo (Brentwood, NY) and sophomore Kristen Collins (Stow, MA) also have set single-season records for the Orangewomen. Grillo's six doubles broke the old mark of five set by Cheryl Julicher last year. Collins now owns the Orangewomen season record with 18 sacrifice hits. The previous record was 12 established by Lindsay Richards.
The pitching staff is paced by junior Heather Brown (Bloomfield, NM) and sophomore Tara DiMaggio (Hopewell Junction, NY) . Brown leads the squad with nine wins and 161 innings pitched. She also is the Orangewomen's top strikeout pitcher with 165 whiffs. DiMaggio owns the team's lowest ERA at 1.54. She has won eight games, racking up 116 strikeouts in just over 127 innings. Opponents are hitting just .206 off the righthander.
Since dropping to 5-16 on April 8, the Orangewomen are 13-9 in their last 22 games. Syracuse has won six of its last nine outings.
