Syracuse (11-2) defeated Virginia, 13-7, on March 3 at the Carrier Dome. The Orangemen did not play Hofstra this season. The last time SU played the Hofstra Pride was in the 1993 national quarterfinals at the Carrier Dome.
The No. 8-seeded Virginia Cavaliers will battle Hofstra on Sunday, May 13 at the United States Military Academy. The game will be televised LIVE on MSG and the Empire Sports Network, as will the quarterfinals.
The bottom half of SU’s bracket features the No. 4 seed, Johns Hopkins, awaiting the winner of the Notre Dame/Bucknell contest.
This is Syracuse’s 22nd appearance (19th consecutive) in the NCAA Championship, and seventh time as the No. 1 seed. SU has gone on to win the national title as the No. 1 seed four times (1988, 1989, 1990, 2000).
The Orangemen own a tournament record of 40-14 (.741), tops among programs who have played at least 20 NCAA Tournament games.
