
Michael Powell Named Attackman of the Year

Powell became the seventh Orangeman to receive the Turnbull Award. The previous two winners were his older brothers, Casey in 1998 and Ryan in 2000.
Michael Powell, the first freshman in school history to be named a first-team All-American, led Syracuse in scoring with 70 points. He tallied 30 goals and a team-high 40 assists. He was fourth on the squad in ground balls with 69. The 70 points and 40 assists he registered are the second-highest totals ever recorded by a freshman at SU. He finished the regular season tied for third in the nation in points per game. His season scoring average ended up as 4.375 points per game.
An exciting player with outstanding quickness and vision, Powell tallied a game-high four assists in the NCAA semifinal win against Notre Dame. He registered two goals and two assists, including the game-tying goal with 16 seconds remaining in the national championship contest against Princeton which forced overtime. He had three goals and an assist in the quarterfinal win against Hofstra.
