SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A goal by senior midfielder John Andrade (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) with 12:34 left in overtime propelled the Syracuse men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory versus Colgate Wednesday night at the Soccer Stadium at the Lampe Athletics Complex. It was Andrade's fifth career game-winning goal.
The Orangemen are now 1-1 on the season, while the Red Raiders fell to 1-2.
Colgate overcame a two-goal deficit with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation to force the extra session. Zach Stuppy put home the tying goal with only three seconds remaining on the clock. Jonathan Cook and Peter Borquin assisted on the goal.
After a scoreless first half, the SU offense came to life thanks to rookie forward Jarett Park (Tully, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Park also had a hand in the game-winning score providing the assist. Park leads the squad with five points on the young season.
Borquin tallied the Red Raiders first goal of the night off a feed from Cook in the 82nd minute, and just under nine munutes later Stuppy tied the game.
Freshman David Rabazzi (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned his first collegiate victoy, making three saves. Will Martin was the losing goalkeeper, also making three saves.
The Orangemen will face another intrastate test on Saturday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Adelphi. Syracuse has won the last seven meetings, including a 5-1 win against the then 21st-ranked Panthers.
