Syracuse went 2-2 in the Orange Invitational Tournament last weekend with wins over Albany and Fairfield. She earned all-tournament honors after posting a team-leading 63 kills in four matches for a .392 hitting percentage. Koster is ranked fourth in the BIG EAST statistics in both hitting percentage and blocks (1.31 bpg) and is sixth in kills (3.94 kpg).
Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) is ninth in assists in the BIG EAST, averaging 10.06 per game. SU’s career assists record-holder dished out a season-high 57 assists against Northeastern. Junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) started the 2001 season by tying her career high in kills with 12 against Albany. She then topped that effort when she recorded 15 kills versus Fairfield. Senior Jing Jing Wang (Beijing, China/Beijing University of Physical Education) also beat a personal best with 13 digs against Northeastern.
SU and Charlotte are the only teams in the tournament with wins under their belts. Charlotte is 2-2 on the young season, while Auburn (0-5) and Jacksonville (0-3) look to earn their first wins.
