
Orangewomen Return Home To Face Saints

The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team takes a week off from BIG EAST conference play with upcoming matches against Siena, Niagara and Canisius. The Orangewomen play their first match in the Women’s Building this season against Siena on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
SU (13-8, 2-4 BIG EAST) had its three-match winning streak snapped last weekend with two BIG EAST losses to Villanova and Georgetown. Head coach Jing Pu currently has 299 career wins, including 160 at Syracuse. Pu accumulated 86 victories in three years at the California University of Pennsylvania, 53 wins in two years at Central Connecticut State and 160 in seven plus years at Syracuse.
Syracuse leads the series against Siena, 11-0. The Orangewomen went 11-0 last season against regional opponents and are currently 3-0 this season.
Junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) moved into ninth place in the Syracuse record books for career digs with 726. Dana Fiume ‘01 currently holds eighth place with 781. With her 257 digs in 2002, Casey has already surpassed her total of 232 from last season. Casey’s career digs per average has increased from a 2.36 to a 2.64 in 2002.
Freshman Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) recorded her sixth double-double of the season against the Hoyas with 18 kills and 10 digs. Conway has recorded double-doubles in kills and digs in the last three matches. She has posted kills in double figures in the last five matches and was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, Oct. 7. Conway recorded a career-high 25 kills against Seton Hall, committing only six errors on 53 attempts for a .358 attack percentage.
