
Orangewomen Take on Eagles This Weekend

The Syracuse women’s volleyball team hosts two BIG EAST matches this weekend. The Orangewomen face Boston College on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and then take on Providence on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1p.m. Both matches are at the Women’s Building.
SU (17-9, 3-5 BIG EAST) leads the series against Boston College, 23-5. The Eagles defeated the Orangewomen, 3-1, last year. The Friars hold a 24-15 advantage in the series versus SU. Syracuse beat Providence last season, 3-1.
Syracuse split its two BIG EAST matches last weekend. The Orangewomen lost to West Virginia, 3-2, and then defeated Pittsburgh, 3-0. Freshman Kelly Duan (Baotou City, China/Zhong Shan University) has posted double-digit figures in either kills or assists in the last three matches. Duan recorded 10 kills on 16 attempts with one error for a .562 attack percentage versus Pittsburgh.
Sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) recorded kills in double figures in the last four matches . Jones has hit in double figures in kills in 12 matches in 2002. Jones is second on the team in kills with 247. She is first in kills per game with 3.63.
Senior co-captain Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) leads SU with 88 total blocks (19 solo, 69 assists). Junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) has played in a team-high 96 games. Casey is averaging 3.34 digs per game. Last year, Casey averaged 2.36 kills per game. Casey moved into eighth place all-time at SU in digs with 790.
