SU To Compete In The NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Meet

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the 2002 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The women's race is set to start at 11 a.m. and the men's will begin at 12 p.m.

Junior John Bitok has led the Orangemen this season, setting course records at the Orange Classic (18:41) and at Gardner-Webb (24:52.46). After finishing eighth in the BIG EAST Championship 8K race with a time of 24:05, Bitok was named to the All-BIG EAST Team.

Senior Aleccia Boland has been the Orangewomen's top runner in nearly every meet she has competed in this season. She finished first at both the Orange Classic (17:30.83) and at Gardner-Webb (22:47). At the BIG EAST Championship, senior Maria Varela was the Orangewomen's top finisher, taking 47th place with a time of 22:31.

The top three or four runners from each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held Nov. 25.
