The Syracuse women’s volleyball team finishes its regular season this weekend with matches against Virginia Tech and Miami. Both teams stand in the top third of the BIG EAST Conference.
SU (19-10, 5-6 BIG EAST) faces the Hokies for the third time in the series history on Friday, Nov. 15. The series is tied at one, with Syracuse winning last year’s matchup. Syracuse faces Miami for the first time in the program’s history on Sunday afternoon. Miami is in its first year in the BIG EAST.
Freshman Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) recorded 15 kills on 43 attempts with 10 errors against Notre Dame on Saturday. In her first year as an Orangewoman, Conway has posted 338 kills on 958 attempts. She is currently 10th on SU’s single season list for attacks. Jennifer Murphy is ninth with 984 attacks in 1995. If Conway’s kill per game average remains at 3.38 for the next two matches, she will move into 10th place on SU’s single season chart for kills per game.
Senior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) recorded four total blocks against Notre Dame, including two solo blocks. The two solo blocks gave her 66 in her career and moved her up to seventh place in SU’s all-time record books. Anne Parisien holds the sixth position with 69 solo blocks in her career.
Junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) has recorded 341 digs this season. Her 3.25 digs per game average currently puts her sixth on SU’s single season list with two matches remaining. Casey has compiled 810 digs in her career.
