The last time the two teams met was in 1963. Syracuse defeated the Crusaders 100-66 on December 21 in Manley Field House.
The game will mark the season-opener for Valparaiso, who went 2-0 in exhibition games against International Select and Sports Tour. The Orangemen lost their first game of the year to Memphis, 70-63, in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Freshman Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Tigers. His 27 points was an SU freshman record for first-game points. In an exhibition game Tuesday, senior Kueth Duany scored 22 points to lead Syracuse to the win.
The Crusaders roster is loaded with experience, featuring six seniors, including two-time first-team all-conference center Raitis Grafs. Senior guard Stalin Ortiz scored 20 points in Valparaiso's second exhibition.
The Orangemen and Crusaders tip off at 1:00 p.m.
