SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse softball coach Mary Jo Firnbach has announced that three players have signed national letters of intent to play for the Orangewomen. Dani Delgado, Erin Gray and Courtney Mosch will all play for SU beginning in 2003-04.
Delgado, a switch-hitting utility player from Las Vegas, Nev., is currently a senior at Centennial High School. She helped the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the Nevada State Tournament and the Sunset Division AAAA Tournament championship last season. As a sophomore, she was named second-team All-Sunset Region and was a part of the Vegas Stars team that won the state under-18 ASA championship. She was an honorable mention all-state pick and a first-team all-region selection in 2000. Delgado will captain Centennial in 2003 and currently plays travel ball for the Las Vegas Rage Gold team.
Gray is a utility player from Katy, Texas. She is a three-year starter at Katy High School and has been named first-team all-district in each of her first three seasons. Last season, Katy was ranked seventh in the nation by USA Today and advanced to the regional semifinals. She plays travel ball with the Texas Impact Gold squad.
Mosch, a pitcher and first baseman from Nazareth, Pa., was the 2002 Allentown Morning Call and Easton Express Times Softball Player of the Year. She was ranked as the fourth-best player in the state by the Pennsylvania Coaches Association. Mosch has been named first-team all-area, all-conference and all-division as a pitcher in each of her first three seasons. She was Allentown Morning Call's Softball Rookie of the Year in 2000. Mosch led Nazareth Area High School to the 2002 District XI championship, throwing the first no-hitter in district history. The team won the Mountain Valley Conference and finished third in the state. She plays travel ball with the New Jersey Rotten Apples.
Syracuse went 25-21 overall and 12-6 in the BIG EAST last season. The Orangewomen finished third in the league, advancing to the program's first BIG EAST Tournament in only their second year of league competition. SU opens the 2003 campaign on February 21 versus Louisiana-Monroe at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas.
