
Perry Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse junior Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle) was named BIG EAST Women's Baketball Player of the Week on Monday, December 9. Perry is the first Orangewoman to win the award this season.
The 5-8 guard helped the Orangewomen to a 1-1 week with back-to-back double-doubles. Perry averaged 16.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in SU's two games. She had 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 58-48 win at St. Bonaventure and 18 points and 16 rebounds in a 67-66 loss to 24th-ranked George Washington. She also had eight steals versus the Bonnies, tying for second on SU's single-game ledger. For the week, Perry shot 52.6 percent (10-19) from the floor and converted 13-of-16 free throws.
Perry has six double-doubles in the Orangewomen's first seven games this season. She is second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game. Perry leads the BIG EAST in rebounding, pulling down 12.3 boards per contest. In her last three games, Perry is averaging 15.7 rebounds per game. She had a career-high 17 boards at San Francisco.
It is the second time in her career that Perry has been named the conference's player of the week. She was also a two-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week in 1999-2000.
The Orangewomen are 2-5 this season. SU is idle until December 18 at Vermont.
