Orangewomen Ranked 10th In IWLCA Preseason Poll

The Syracuse University women’s lacrosse team was ranked 10th in the IWLCA’s 2002 Division I Preseason Poll as announced by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
This is the second poll that has picked SU to finish 10th among Division I programs. Lacrosse Magazine gave Syracuse a No. 10 ranking in its preseason poll.
Seven of the Orangewomen’s 2002 opponents were featured in the top 20 poll, including defending national champion Maryland,which took the top spot with 174 points. BIG EAST opponents Georgetown and Notre Dame were ranked fourth and 17th, respectively. SU faces seventh-ranked Virginia in its next game on Saturday, Mar. 2 in Charlottesville, VA at noon.
Syracuse started off its 2002 season with a 15-9 win against Stanford in its first trip to the West Coast. The season-opening win was a first in the program’s five-year history. SU takes on three top-10 teams -Virginia, Maryland and Georgetown - in its next three games.
