NEW YORK - Syracuse senior Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) will participate in the 2002 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago on April 12-13. She is one of more than 80 players from 60 colleges and universities that will showcase their skills at the two-day combine.
This past season, James helped the Orangewomen to an 18-13 record and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1988. The senior co-captain was second on the team in scoring with a 14.6 per game average and was a third-team All-BIG EAST selection. James set the school record for three-pointers made in a season with 72. She and sophomore guard Julie McBride became the first Syracuse tandem since the 1980-81 season to each score 400 or more points in a season. James scored in double figures in 26 of SU's 31 games, including five games with 20 or more points. She scored a career-best 33 points versus Georgetown, which ranks in a tie for fourth on SU single-game ledger. James also led the team with a career-best 65 steals.
James ended her career as Syracuse's seventh all-time leading scorer with 1,215 points. She is the Orangewomen's all-time leader in three-point shooting with 226 makes, 639 attempts and a 35.4 three-point percentage. She and senior men's basketball standout Preston Shumpert are the only two Syracuse players, men's or women's, to make at least 200 career three-pointers.
James is the second Syracuse player in as many seasons to be invited to the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp. Beth Record attended the 2001 combine and was a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Sparks. She is one of four BIG EAST players attending the event, including 2001 Boston College graduate Jaimie Cournoyer, Rutgers' Davalyn Cunningham and Virignia Tech's Sarah Hicks.
The four-round WNBA Draft will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at the studios of WNBA Entertainment in Seacaucus, N.J. ESPN2 will televise the event for the second consecutive season. Additional coverage will be provided by NBA TV and WNBA.com
