Watkins Sets School Record at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - Syracuse junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) set a school record in the triple jump to lead the Orangewomen track & field team to a third-place finish with 90 points at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday, April 6. The Orangemen placed fourth with 47 points.
Watkins provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship and won the triple jump with a distance of 42'4.25". The mark surpassed the precedent of 41'2.50" set by Jamila Codrington in 1996. Freshman Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) also provisionally qualified for NCAAs with a first-place throw of 166’6.00” in the discus. Senior Stacey Dwyer (Huntington Station, N.Y./Barton County CC) ran a personal-best 59.30 to win the 400-meter hurdles.
On the men's side, sophomore John Bitok (Kitale, Kenya/Paul Boit) placed second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:42.90. Junior Tim Adrian (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark) won the discus with a throw of 167'9.00".
Both men's and women's squads will travel to Providence, R.I. for the Brown Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
