
Rust and Trombley Earn All-BIG EAST First Team Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI - Four Syracuse women’s lacrosse players earned All-BIG EAST honors as announced by the BIG EAST on Monday, May 6.
Juniors Ellen Rust (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) and Jessica Trombley (Kueka Park, NY/Penn Yan Academy) earned first-team All-BIG EAST honors, while senior Karen Healy (Freeport, NY/Freeport) and sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) received second-team recognition.
Rust, a defender, started her first games as an Orangewomen in 2002. She started all 15 regular season games and recorded three goals and 15 groundballs. She netted her first collegiate goal against Boston College and also had tallies against Colgate and Rutgers.
Trombley, a midfielder, started all 15 regular season games for SU. In her first starts as an Orangewomen this season, Trombley tallied 15 points on 13 goals and two assists. She also recorded 19 groundballs and was second on the team in caused turnovers with 13.
Healy, a fifth-year senior, returned from a knee injury to start in 10 of 12 games in 2002. She recorded seven goals, including four against Rutgers. She also tallied 19 groundballs and was tied for third with 18 draw controls. Healy is currently sixth on SU’s career goals list (53) and seventh on the school’s points list with 63 (53 goals, 10 assists).
Zimmer received second-team honors for the second year. The attacker is tied for first on the team with 55 points (39 goals, 16 assists). Zimmer has scored at least one goal in each of the last 22 games and has tallied at least three goals in seven matches in 2002. She was first on the team in goals scored, second in assists and recorded the second-best single-season record at SU for goals and points.
The 16th-ranked Orangewomen completed the regular season with a 10-5 record and finished third in the BIG EAST Conference at 3-3 behind Georgetown and Notre Dame. Syracuse received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will face fourth-seed Cornell on Thursday, May 9 at 4 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
