SYRACUSE, NY - Former Orangewomen Carol Munger joins the women’s volleyball staff as an assistant coach for the 2002-03 season. Munger, who stands 10th on SU’s all-time kills list with 716, will assist Coach Pu in all aspects of the program.
Originally recruited to be trained as a setter, Munger, instead became a main force for Syracuse’s offense during her tenure as an Orangewoman. She had a breakout year during her junior season, amassing 371 kills and recording the ninth-best single season attacks per game average (7.75) in Syracuse history. Munger was ranked 10th in the BIG EAST in conference games and second on the team in hitting percentage (.274) in 2000.
Munger moved into third place on SU’s all-time kills per game list (3.49 per game) and 10th in career kills during her senior year despite missing the first 11 matches due to a knee injury. She finished the 2001 season second on the team in kills (219) and kills per game (3.32) and received the team’s Abby Bigelow Award for Courage.
Munger earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and supply chain management from Syracuse in 2002. A native of Canandaigua, N.Y., Munger is pursuing a master’s degree in the School of Management.
