SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior Cheryl Julicher (Williamsville) helped the Western New York softball team to a gold medal at the 2002 Empire State Games played at SU's Softball Stadium at Skytop on August 1-4.

Julicher went 2-for-3 and drove in both runs in WNY's 2-1 victory versus the Adirondack region in the gold medal game.

SU also had two players earn bronze medals playing for the Hudson Valley region. Senior Tara DiMaggio (Hopewell Junction) pitched the squad to a 7-2 victory versus Central New York in the bronze medal game. DiMaggio allowed only six hits in the complete-game victory. She also had a hit. Sophomore Sura Katz (Stone Ridge) scored a run for Hudson Valley in the win.
