
Orangewomen Open BIG EAST play on Friday

The women’s volleyball team looks to return to winning ways this weekend when it opens BIG EAST conference play on Friday, Sept. 27 against St. John’s at 7 p.m. in Manley Field House.
The Orangewomen continue action on Saturday, Sept, 28 against Marist and then face BIG EAST rival Connecticut on Sunday. Both matches are at 2 p.m.
Syracuse (9-4) had its six-match winning streak snapped last weekend with three losses in the Radisson Invitational in Kalamazoo, MI.
SU has a 30-13 advantage against its three opponents this weekend, including a 23-10 record against Connecticut. The Orangewomen lost to St. John’s and Connecticut last year, both by scores of 3-0.
The Orangewomen are leaders in several statistical categories in The BIG EAST Conference. Senior co-captain Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) is seventh in hitting percentage (.353) and fifth in blocks with 1.19 per game. Junior Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) is 10th in assists per game (8.86), while freshman Kelly Duan (Baotou City, China/Zhong Shan University) is second in service aces with 19. Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) ranks eighth in the conference in digs with 3.55.
