Head coach Mac Gifford will likely go with the exact same lineup as he had at the Cornell Tournament. Seniors Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia/School #528) and Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, Calif./Calabasas) swept their doubles competition and each split their singles matches. Sophomores Kristine Bech Holte (Oslo, Norway/Fagerborg vgs.) and Trine Lise Juliussen (Rade, Norway/Treider vgs.) also swept their Flight A doubles competition, and Holte won both her singles matches. Junior Daniela Kaluskova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gym Budejovicka) also went 4-0 at the first tournament of the season, including two wins at doubles with freshman Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia/SMJK Ave Maria Convent).
Last season, Syracuse enjoyed much success at the Maryland Invitational. Holte won the Flight B doubles title with junior Jessica Schlosser (Nedrow, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Saedinia and Kabanova took third place in Flight A doubles, and Kaluskova won third place in Flight A singles.
This weekend’s tournament features teams from Richmond, West Virginia, American, Cornell, Penn State, George Washington, and Maryland. The three-day event will encompass four singles flights and two doubles flights.
