Women's Soccer Game Called Due To Dangerous Playing Conditions

The women's soccer contest between Syracuse and Massachusetts at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium on Friday night was called at halftime by head official Rachel Woo due to dangerous playing conditions. A steady downpour throughout the day and during the game left the playing field completely saturated and partially submerged in some areas.
Neither team was able to score as the soggy ground stopped just as many shots as either goalkeeper. Poor footing and inadvertent collisions between players created dangerous situations and the safety of both teams was taken into consideration.
The game will not count towards either team's record as NCAA rules state a match must last at least 71 minutes to be deemed official. It is yet to be determined if the game will be rescheduled.
SU (2-4-1 overall, 0-2-0 BIG EAST) will play Miami on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. in the Soccer Stadium.
