Track & Field Women Finish Third, Men Sixth at Penn State

Sophomore thrower Johvonne Hernandez paced the women, winning the weight throw with a distance of 60-1.75, and taking second in the shot put with a throw of 46-9.50. Fellow sophomore Jenna Grimaldi cleared 5-6 to win the high jump. Graduate student Alison Culley sped to a pair of second-place finishes in the 60-meter dash (7.59) and 200-meter dash (24.78). Aprelle Watkins finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 40-3.50.
Junior John Bitok qualified for BIG EAST and IC4A Championship competition, winning the 3,000-meter run in 8:22.72. Senior Tim Adrian led SU in the field events, taking second in the shot put with a throw of 55-8.50. Senior Joel Carusone cleared 15-3 for third place in the pole vault and junior Joshua Johnson took second in the triple jump with a mark of 49-0.25.
Both men's and women's team will next compete at the New York Elite Collegiate/Open Invitational in New York City on Friday, Jan. 24.
