SU is making its inaugural appearance in a new arena for the second time in eight days. Miami’s new home is the Ryder Center, a 7,000-seat facility that debuted on Jan. 4 in a 64-61 Hurricane overtime win against North Carolina. The Orangemen got their first look at the new Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh on Jan. 18.
Syracuse made a clean sweep of Seton Hall in its last game, defeating the Pirates 83-65 at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday. The Orangemen won at the Hall earlier this month, 70-66. In Wednesday’s game, five Syracuse players scored more than 10 points, with sophomore Hakim Warrick leading SU’s effort with 22 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth-straight double-double. Freshman Gerry McNamara score 21 points and added six assists and three steals. Freshmen Carmelo Anthony and Billy Edelin each scored 11 points, and senior Kueth Duany finished with 10. Anthony, Warrick, McNamara, and Duany are each averaging double-figures in points this season (21.9, 16.7, 15.8, and 12.4, respectively).
Miami is fresh off a dramatic 77-76 last-second win against then-No. 6 Connecticut on Jan. 20. Junior Darius Rice capped a career-high 43-point night with a steal and a three-pointer in the final seconds to secure the win. Rice is averaging a team-best 18.8 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds per outing.
Fans can listen to the game in the Syracuse area on the SU Radio Network, 1260 AM. Voice of the Orange Mark Johnson will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Park will provide color commentary. The game will also be televised on CBS with Ian Eagle and Bill Raftery calling the plays.
