SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange volleyball team will try to preserve its season-long, seven-match home unbeaten streak against league foes Rutgers (7-10, 1-2 BIG EAST) and Seton Hall (14-6, 0-3 BIG EAST) this weekend at Manley Field House. Syracuse (13-8, 2-2 BIG EAST) will also try to get back on the winning track after losing matches to Connecticut and St. John's last weekend.
Syracuse leads the all-time series with Rutgers, 8-5. The Orangewomen were victorious in last season's five-game thriller, 27-30, 31-29, 16-30, 30-27, 17-15. In 2001, the Scarlet Knights earned a five-game victory of their own, 30-19, 26-30, 30-27, 28-30, 15-13. The two teams have split the eight matches played during Syracuse head coach Jing Pu's tenure.
SU has a 22-4 advantage in the series with the Pirates. Two of SHU's four victories have come since Pu became SU's coach (2001, 3-1; 1998, 3-1). The Orange have won three of the last four meetings, including a five-game victory in 2002: 30-24, 21-30, 19-30, 30-26, 15-12.
The Syracuse-Rutgers match is Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:00 p.m. The first serve of the SU-Seton Hall match is Sunday, Oct. 12, at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Manley Field House, and admission is free.
