Malcom and Bruegge to Join Orange Volleyball in 2004

Bruegge, a native of Breese, Ill., has played four seasons for Mater Dei High School as a middle blocker and outside hitter. This season, Bruegge recorded 239 kills, 34 aces, 184 blocks and 350 digs. She finished her scholastic career with 907 kills. A two-time team captain, Bruegge led Mater Dei to the 2001 Illinois State Class A Championship. In 2003, Bruegge helped her club team, Team S. Louis 181, to a fifth place national finish. Bruegge was named to the Belleville News Democrat Class A St. Louis All-Metro Team, the 21st News Gazette All-State Team, and the Quincy Notre Dame All-Tournament Team in 2002. In 2003, she was the runner-up for the Morning Sentinel’s Athlete of the Year award. She was an all-tournament selection at the Quincy Notre Dame Tournament, and at the Belleville East Tournament, and she was a two-time Breese Journal Player of the Week. Bruegge was named team MVP and best offensive player as a junior and senior, and earned most improved honors as a sophomore. Bruegge is also a four-year letterwinner in basketball and competed three years in track for the Lady Knights.
Malcom earned four letters in volleyball at Schaller-Crestland High School in Schaller, Iowa. In 2003, she led her team to a 30-3 record by posting 307 kills, 42 aces and 80 blocks as a middle blocker. In her career, Malcom compiled 1,131 kills, 118 aces and 414 blocks. A team captain as a senior, Malcom was a first-team All-Northwest Iowa Conference selection and a first-team all-area selection all four seasons. She was an all-district selection the last three seasons, and she was named seventh-team all-state in 2002. This season, she competed in the Senior All-Star Classic. In addition to her high school team, Malcom played for the Nebraska Elite Club in 2003. She also lettered in basketball, track and softball at Schaller-Crestland.
The 2003 Orangewomen finished the season with a 17-16 overall record and a 4-8 mark in BIG EAST competition.
