Bitok Caps Stellar Career With Third-Place Finish

BRONX, N.Y. -- Senior captain John Bitok closed out his stellar cross country career with a third-place finish in the University Division race at the 95th annual IC4A Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Van Cortlandt Park.
Bitok completed the five-mile race with a time of 25:22, which was 32 seconds behind Stephen Meinelt of New Hampshire, who won the race with a time of 24:50. The Orangemen finished second out of 12 in the men’s team standings with 73 points. New Hampshire claimed the men’s team crown with 28 points.
It was the Orangemen’s highest finish since SU won the University Division team championship in 1995.
Sophomore Chris Muldoon and freshman David Wishart joined Bitok in the top 12. Muldoon posted a time of 26:17 (9th) and Wishart crossed the finish line at 26:29 (12th). SU’s next finisher was freshman Matt Lawson, who placed 23rd with a time of 26:50.
In the men’s five-mile Coaches’ Race, freshman Geoff Nelson was the Orangemen’s top finisher claiming 35th with a time of 28:51.
In the University Division Race of the ECAC Championship, junior Christine Ramsey paced SU by claiming 12th place and completing the 5K course in 19:14. The Orangewomen scored 126 points, which was good for fifth out 15 squads in the women’s team standings. New Hampshire won the women’s title with 54 points. The Wildcats were followed by Albany (80 points), Binghamton (98 points), and East Carolina (124 points).
Senior captain Lauren Rich was the Orangewomen’s second finisher, placing 16th (19:20). Junior Leah Folmsbee crossed the finish line in 19:37 to claim 27th place.
In the ECAC 5K Coaches’ Race, freshman Emily Everding was the Orangewomen’s top finisher placing 28th (20:44).
