Former SU Tennis Coach Jesse Dwire Passes Away

At Syracuse Dwire amassed a 205-140 record during his 21 seasons. His teams won the 1982, 1984 and 1985 BIG EAST Conference championships and he was named league Coach of the Year in 1995. Dwire was named the 1993 Eastern Region Coach of the Year. His student-athletes won 25 BIG EAST individual titles and 19 conference doubles titles. SU finished in the top two at the BIG EAST championship in 12 of the 17 years of his tenure. Dwire mentored two All-Americans, five individual national qualifiers and one doubles team that qualified for nationals. Three of his student-athletes have been inducted into the Orange Plus Hall of Fame.
Calling hours will be on Friday, November 28 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee Street, Camillus. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 29 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Syracuse Tennis Fund through the Orange Pack Office, Manley Field House, Syracuse, NY 13244.
