
SU Puts Six-Game Streak Up Against Bulldogs

SYRACUSE, NY -- The #17/21 Syracuse men's basketball team takes a six-game winning streak into its next outing, a December 28 matchup with North Carolina-Asheville at the Carrier Dome. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Orangemen have not lost since a season-opening defeat at the hands of Charlotte, 96-92. Since that time, SU has claimed six straight, including a 101-63 victory versus Colgate in its last outing on December 22.
Junior forward Hakim Warrick continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding averages with mark of 19.9 and 8.3, respectively. Sophomore guard Gerry McNamara is averaginjg 15.9 points and outing and backcourt mate Billy Edelin is averaging 13.4 points per game. Edelin has 34 assists against only 10 turnovers in seven outings.
NC-Asheville brings a 2-7 mark into the encounter and snapped a five-game losing streak with a 85-52 win against Montreat College. Bryan McCullough leads the team in scoring (11.1 ppg) and rebounding (5.4 rpg). Turnovers have plagued the Bulldogs all season. They are averaging 19.9 through their first nine contests.
The Orangemen and Bulldogs have met twice before with SU winning both matchups. The most recent meeting was the 1997-98 season-opener. Todd Burgan notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Blackwell paced the Orange with 17 points in a 60-57 triumph.
Fans can listen to the game on the SU Radio Network. The pre-game show will begin 60 minutes prior to tip off on 1260 AM with the rest of the network joining the broadcast 30 minutes before game time. Fans can also listen to the contest live via the Internet at www.suathletics.com.
Carrier Dome Gates A, B, C & E will open 90 minutes prior to the contest and before all home basketball contests in December. All gates will open 90 minutes before tipoff beginning in January.
