The Orangemen are riding a four-game winning streak, dating back to a Feb 15, 82-80 win against Notre Dame at the Dome. SU defeated West Virginia, 89-51, on Wednesday to complete the series sweep of the Mountaineers. John R. Wooden Award finalist Carmelo Anthony (www.suathletics.com/carmelo) recorded his 15th double-double of the year with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Hakim Warrick, the team’s second-leading scorer, scored 18 points and added eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Senior Kueth Duany enters Saturday’s game needing six points to become the 45th Syracuse player to score 1,000 points in his career. Duany tallied 18 in Wednesday’s game.
SU faces another Wooden Award finalist in Georgetown junior Mike Sweetney. On Feb. 3, Sweetney scored 32 points and 13 rebounds against the Orangemen. He posted 20 points and eight boards in the Hoyas’ most recent game, a 71-56 win against Providence. Georgetown shot a season-best 53.1 percent from the floor against the Friars, and forced Providence to commit 25 turnovers. Sweetney and Anthony are the only two players in the country to be ranked in the top-25 in both scoring (Sweetney: 14th, 22.4 ppg; Anthony: 19th, 21.9 ppg) and rebounding (Sweetney: 20th, 9.8 rpg; Anthony: 24th, 9.6 rpg).
Fans can listen to the game in the Syracuse area on the SU Radio Network, 1260 AM. Voice of the Orange Mark Johnson will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Park will provide color commentary. The game will also be televised on ABC with Dan Shulman and Len Elmore calling the plays.
