
Women's Soccer Announces Six Additions To 2003 Team

Kelly Bailie, a midfielder from Dundonald, Northern Ireland, was a two-time NJCAA All-American, a two-time Region III Player of the Year and a two-time Western New York Athletic Conference selection for the Monroe Community College women’s soccer team in 2001 and 2002.
As a sophomore in 2002, Bailie scored 77 points on 28 goals and 21 assists, and captained the team to a Region III Championship and the NJCAA national title game. In her freshman season, Bailie netted 12 goals and dished out 12 assists on a team that went 23-0 and won the NJCAA national championship. She was a member of the 2001 NJCAA All-Tournament Team and was also named offensive MVP of the tournament.
Shana Thomas, a forward from Mississauga, Ontario, played with Bailie at MCC and was a 2002 NJCAA All-American. Thomas, who scored 54 points on 24 goals and six assists as a sophomore, earned a spot on the 2002 NJCAA All-Tournament Team and was an all-region and all-conference selection. As a freshman, Thomas scored 12 goals and had nine assists, earning All-WNYC honors.
Kristina Cristofori, from Fairport, N.Y., will be the third MCC player joining the Orangewomen in 2003. Cristofori scored 25 goals and had 21 assists in 2002 on her way to earning NJCAA and NSCAA All-American honors, first team all-region honors and NJCAA First Team All-Tournament accolades. While at Fairport HS, Cristofori was a three-time team captain and First Team All-Greater Rochester selection before missing her senior season due to injury. She was a two-year NYSW regional player and Monroe Country Player of the Year. Her two older brothers, Mario and Guido, also played soccer at Syracuse.
Cari Simon, a forward from South Glastonbury, Conn., Loretta Younkin, a forward/midfielder from Woodland Hills, Calif., Molly McManus, a forward from Binghamton, N.Y. will add depth to the Orangewomen this fall.
Simon was a two-time all-state performer and four-year letterwinner at Glastonbury HS. She led the Tomahawks to a 17-3 record as a senior captain, and scored 15 goals and had 15 assists. An All-New England pick in 2002, Simon was in the Connecticut Olympic Development Program from 1997 to 2002. Glastonbury HS is also the alma mater of SU’s all-time leading scorer, Erin O'Grady ('01).
Younkin, a four-year letterwinner at Chaminade College Prep, scored five goals, had two assists, and posted four shutouts as a goalkeeper in her senior season. She helped lead Chaminade to Mission League titles in 2001 and 2002 and earned second-team All-Mission League honors at center-midfield in her sophomore year. A three-time all-academic team selection, Younkin also captained Chaminade in her senior year.
McManus led Seton Catholic HS to a 39-5 record and the 2001 New York State Class C title in her last two years. In that span, McManus scored 40 goals and dished out 36 assists. She was named the 2001 state Class C Player of the Year by the NYSSCOGS and was also a 2002 first team all-state pick, while captaining the Saints to an 18-2 record.
