The Syracuse University men's lacrosse team earned its 24th NCAA Division I Tournament invitation and plays Dartmouth in the Carrier Dome at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 11. The defending national champion Orangemen earned an NCAA berth for the 21st consecutive year, thanks to their 8-5 regular-season record, strength of schedule and victory against No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins on March 15.
Dartmouth will be making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in men's lacrosse, having secured the Ivy League's automatic bid. The Big Green own an 11-2 record. Their most impressive win was a 13-6 decision at Princeton on April 26.
The last time Syracuse and Dartmouth met was March 30, 1991, in Manhasset, N.Y. The Orangemen posted a 23-7 victory. Overall, SU owns an 18-4 advantage in the all-time series against the Big Green.
The top four seeds in this year's tournament are: No. 1 Johns Hopkins (11-1); No. 2 Virginia (11-2); No. 3 Maryland (10-3); and No. 4 Princeton (10-3).
The winner of the Syracuse-Dartmouth pairing will play the victor of the Albany-Princeton matchup on Saturday, May 17, in Syracuse's Carrier Dome. The other quarterfinal game that will be played at the Dome will be Maryland-Ohio State winner vs. Massachusetts-Hofstra winner.
