SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orangewomen volleyball team will compete in its final early-season tournament this weekend when it travels to Durham, N.H., for the UNH Tournament. SU will play teams from Florida International, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
Syracuse won the only previous meeting with Florida International, 15-13, 15-12, 15-7, in 1993. SU is undefeated in three matches against New Hampshire, with the last win coming in 1998, 15-6, 15-11, 15-1. Rhode Island is the only team on this weekend's schedule that Syracuse has lost to. SU is 3-12 against the Rams, with the Orangewomen's three victories coming in the last three matches. SU defeated URI twice during the 1991 season, and once in 1990. In the last meeting, Syracuse triumphed, 15-9, 7-15, 13-15, 15-7, 18-16.
The Orangewomen are looking to get back on the winning track this weekend. SU had its six-match winning streak snapped by Kentucky on Friday at the Kentucky Conference Challenge. Syracuse also lost to Virginia and Wright State last weekend, giving the Orange a 7-4 overall record. Junior Morgan Jones was named to the all-tournament team.
The schedule for this weekend's tournament includes SU taking on Florida International at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Syracuse against New Hampshire at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, and against Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m.
