
Volleyball Opens BIG EAST Slate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse volleyball team begins the BIG EAST portion of its schedule this weekend when it hosts league foes Georgetown and Villanova, as well as non-conference opponent St. Francis (N.Y.), this weekend at Manley Field House.
After securing their first win in six matches against Rhode Island in the final contest of the UNH Tournament, the Orangewomen will try to keep their streak alive as they return to the newly re-opened Manley Field House. Syracuse takes on Georgetown on Friday at 7:00 p.m., then steps out of the conference for a tilt against St. Francis on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Orange gets its second shot at a BIG EAST team on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., against Villanova.
The Hoyas (4-9, 0-0 BIG EAST) bring a six-match series winning streak into Syracuse on Friday. Georgetown has a 16-14 edge in the series against SU. The last time the Orangewomen beat the Hoyas was a three-match decision in 1997: 15-13, 15-4, 15-4. Last season, Georgetown defeated SU, 29-31, 30-18, 30-12, 30-28.
The Orangewomen hold the edge historically against Villanova, 15-11-2. The Wildcats (3-9, 0-0 BIG EAST) earned the win last season, 30-19, 28-30, 27-30, 30-20, 15-9. SU was victorious in the only meeting of 2001, 24-30, 30-28, 30-15, 30-20.
Syracuse will face St. Francis for the first time on Saturday. The Terriers have a 2-7 record on the season.
All matches will take place at Manley Field House, and admission is free.
