Grimaldi and Hernandez Win at USTCA Series Meet

Hernandez recorded BIG EAST-, ECAC- and NCAA Provisional-qualifying marks with a throw of 18.81m (61-8.5) in the weight throw. She placed second in the shot put with a BIG EAST- and ECAC-qualifying mark of 14.39m (47-2.5). Grimaldi qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC meets with a 1.78m (5-10.0) leap in the high jump.
Three other Orangewomen qualified for both the BIG EAST and ECAC championships: Valerie Boling, who finished fifth with a 24.92 time in the 200-meter dash; Tatiana Warren, who placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.71m (18-9.0); and Sheron Mark, who posted a 11.85m (38-10.5) jump and a fifth-place finish in the triple jump. Mark also qualified for the BIG EAST meet with a 5.61m jump and eighth-place finish in the long jump, and sophomore Kristen Michalski posted a BIG EAST-qualifying mark of 16.06m (62-8.25) and a fourth-place finish in the weight throw.
The Orangemen placed 13th out of 16 teams at the meet. Valerij Petrulevich finished seventh in the 800-meter run and set a school record with a BIG EAST- and IC4A-qualifying time of 1:52.84. Graduate student Steve Bedard posted a BIG EAST- and IC4A-qualifying throw of 16.56m (63-11.75) and finished fourth in the shot put.
Freshman Aulton Kohn qualified for the BIG EAST meet with a time of 22.29 and a 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dash. He also recorded a personal-best time of 6.89 on his way to fourth place in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Chris Muldoon finished ninth in the mile with a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 4:17.25, and sophomore Brien Flewelling qualified for the league meet with a leap of 1.91m (6-3.25) in the high jump.
Syracuse's next competition will be on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Cornell Four-Way.
