SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Twenty-six members of the Orange men's lacrosse team volunteered their time along with neighborhood volunteers to plant eight bare-root trees and two balled-in-burlap trees at Comfort Tyler Park on Friday, Nov. 5. The trees were obtained as part of a CNY Community Foundation Green Grant to the Outer Comstock Neighborhood Association. Part of the Green Grant went towards replacing shrubs in the park's planter.
SU players planted a tricolor beech, two swamp white oaks, a London Plain, two crab apple, a star magnolia and three pears. The hope is that the new trees will partially replace trees that have died in the park during the past few years.
This event was the result of a collaboration between the Outer Comstock Neighborhood Association, the Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services and Syracuse University.
The Orange have worked with the Outer Comstock Neighborhood Association before. In October of 2000 and 2001, the SU lacrosse team spent a Saturday afternoon decorating pumpkins with youngsters at Comfort Tyler Park.
