SYRACUSE, NY -- The #7/8 Syracuse men's basketball team (11-1) will take the court December 28 when it plays host to Albany in the Dome. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Syracuse faces a vastly improved Albany squad that brings a 4-4 mark into the contest and are just one win shy from last year’s victory total.
Albany has already posted wins against Sacred Heart (85-67), Siena (86-65), Army (73-46), and Hartford (71-59). Each decision came on the road. They have suffered a one-point loss to Wagner (66-65), an overtime defeat at the hands of Long Island (80-76), and losses to Lehigh (72-61) and Villanova (86-72).
Junior guard Lucious Jordan, a transfer from Loyola (Md.), has been a welcome addition. He leads the team with a 19.0 scoring average in eight starts. Jamar Wilson, a junior guard who missed last season with an injury, is averaging 16.0 points per game. There is size in the lineup in the form of 7-1 Kirsten Zoellner (8.9 ppg., 5.5 rpg.), a transfer from Boston College. Junior forward Levi Levine is averaging 11.0 points and 6.7 boards.
Syracuse defeated Rice last Wednesday night, 88-72. Gerry McNamara had 19 points, 10 assists and a career-high nine rebounds and Josh Pace equaled his career-high with 22 points. Hakim Warrick finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, while senior Craig Forth had a season-high 14 points for the Orange, including three dunks.
Syracuse has a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams first met in 1919. The series was renewed in 1999, the first of four straight seasons of play.
Fans who can't make it to the Carrier Dome can catch the Syracuse ISP Network broadcast on WAQX 95.7 in the Syracuse area or by logging on to www.suathletics.com. Matt Park and color commentator Gene Waldron will handle the broadcast duties.
