Heumann was paralyzed in a car accident prior to starting his freshman year at SU. He later started his company, Heumannly Capable, and began touring the country as a motivational speaker, sharing his philosophy that "10 percent of life is what happens to you; 90 percent is how you handle it."
"He was very inspirational," SU head coach Mac Gifford said. "He's amazing. He's a former tennis player who loves the game. He's just a remarkable human being."
In his talk, Heumann spoke about overcoming adversity and about being successful against all odds. After speaking to the team, Heumann played a couple of games with the players and coaches.
The Orangewomen, who currently hold a 0-4 overall record and a 0-1 mark in the BIG EAST, host Rutgers and Massachusetts this weekend at Drumlins. SU takes on the Scarlet Knights on Saturday at 11 a.m., and plays the Minutewomen on Sunday at noon.
